New Assistant Director of Community Development

Tim Thompson, AICP, joined the City of Concord on Monday, September 11 as the new Assistant Director of Community Development. In this role, he will serve as deputy department head for the Community Development Department and handle economic development, the City's parking system, and coordination of the management of the Concord Municipal Airport.

Tim has been a professional planner in New Hampshire since 1997. He is a lifelong resident of Concord, graduating from Concord High School in 1992. He is a 1997 graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, receiving dual degrees: a Bachelor of Urban Planning & Development and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design. Tim began his professional career as a City Planner for the City of Rochester, then spent 11 years as the Town Planner for the Town of Londonderry and 12 years as the Community Development Director for the Town of Merrimack prior to coming to Concord. Tim has been an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) member since 2001 and continues to be an active member of the Northern New England Chapter of the American Planning Association, NH Planners Association and NH Economic Development Association (he spent over 7 years on the executive committees of both NNECAPA and NHPA). In June of 2011, Tim was honored by NHPA as the co-recipient of the 2011 Professional Planner of the Year award. He was also honored by the Merrimack Rotary Club as an "Excellence in the Workplace" Honoree in both 2015 and 2017. In addition to professional memberships, Tim also served as a volunteer in Concord with tenures on both the Zoning Board of Adjustment (from 1998-2000) & Architectural Design Review Committee (from 2021-August 2023).
