Concord Municipal Airport gets a Makeover

Updated: Jan 29, 2019

Did you know that the City of Concord has its very own airport? Actually, the airport serves as a general aviation reliever to the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, located in nearby Manchester, NH. Built in 1937, it is frequently used for corporate and business travel, and is used by many of the NASCAR race teams when they are in the area for events at the nearby New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. It is also utilized by U.S. presidential candidates when they visit New Hampshire to campaign during primary season.

The Concord Municipal Airport is a 614-acre general aviation facility that is located about two miles from downtown with 35,000 square feet of heated hangars and 22 private T-hangars. It includes two runways (6,005 feet and 3,200 feet in length, respectively), capable of serving large aircraft including Boeing 727s and the military’s C-130 transport aircraft. It is also home to the New Hampshire Army National Guard (NHARNG) Army Aviation Support Facility, C/3-238th Aviation Regiment, A/1-169th Aviation Regiment, and DET 18 Operational Support Airlift Detachment and the State Police Special Enforcement Unit. While the airport belongs to the City of Concord, Concord Aviation Services is the airport’s fixed base operator. They offer flight instruction, fueling, and aircraft services.

The City of Concord recently completed a much-needed revitalization to the Concord Municipal Airport terminal building, making the lobby and the pilot’s lounge a much more welcoming gateway to the City. Work included electrical upgrades, new furniture, Wi-Fi, new televisions, and other furnishings. Joseph Alosa, of the City of Concord Airport Advisory Committee, matched the City’s $20,000 investment for the renovations by donating the labor, materials, and supplies to paint the interior walls, and install new carpet in the lounge areas. Tile flooring was also installed in the foyer. The lobby and pilot’s lounge are now comfortable, welcoming spaces for guests while they are waiting for their flight.
